2010: A Science Odyssey

With rising public awareness of science and its position in society, we are faced with difficulties in ensuring scientific knowledge is provided in a responsible, understandable manner. Scientific knowledge is no longer confined to academics and researchers, but is becoming available to the mass public. With this wide availability also come the dangers of misunderstanding and misinformation. Science is now part of our everyday life, from computers and mobile phones to the wider scale of environmental issues. This creates the need for easily accessible evidence based science.
The Centre for Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) at the Australian National University (ANU) works to promote the relevance of science and to facilitate the communication of evidence based information. By teaching a broad range of students the skills for effective and practical science communication, CPAS is aiding in the communication of science to the general community.

2010: A Science Odyssey is an undergraduate student organised scientific conference to be held at the ANU in June. Our aim is to promote the importance of good scientific communication and also to clearly communicate a wide range of scientific topics in an accessible and informative way.

2010: A Science Odyssey will showcase the unique academic interests and directions of each student. The wide ranging presentation topics reflect the broad knowledge we have gained in our various fields of study. Our presentations are based on findings from independent research on individually chosen topics.
