Summary:
Within the field of linguistics, there is a “universal” language being developed with the aim of explaining culturally different values and ways of speaking in an easily understandable way. This is known as Natural Semantic Metalanguage, and it has many implications for cross-cultural communication. It has the potential to improve understanding of other cultures and prevent some miscommunication. NSM could be applied to many other fields, including the communication of science.
