Dengue fever genetic control risk communication strategy - the buzz kill

Presenters:
Avril Baker, Myles Harrison, Hye Jeong and Jessica Ward

Summary:
Dengue Fever currently has no cure. As it is transferred through tropical mosquitoes it is of most pressing concern to Queensland. Scientists have developed a way to genetically modify these mosquitoes and are planning to release this genetic control on the environment. Communicating this risk to the public has inherent risks and ethical issues. This presentation will give an overview of the situation, and outline the risk communication strategy developed by SCOM3001 students to address the issue.
