Drought and mental health risk communication strategy
Presenters:
Jasmin Logg-Scarvell, Patrick Hutchings, Helen Cordiner, Aidan Muirhead and Lara Cleaver
Summary:
Mental health issues related to drought in rural areas, such as stress and depression, are on the rise. Drought incidence is predicted to increase in Australia in the future due to climate change, land degradation and ENSO weather patterns. These factors combined are likely to increase the risk of mental health issues in rural areas in the future. Communicating this increased risk and directing those affected to appropriate resources will therefore be increasingly important. This talk will present an overview of these issues, and outline the risk communication strategy developed by SCOM3001 students to address the issue.
